Welcome to Thorns Primary School. Safe, happy, learning: the three words that describe our aim for every child. Our school vision is, "Every child is safe, happy and learning because every adult is caring, happy in their work and skilled."
I am very proud to be the Head Teacher of this lovely school! Since I started here in September 2018 there have been many changes and much effort has gone into making vast improvements, both to our core offer and to the site itself. We offer a safe, secure and welcoming environment in which all can thrive. Our children are a delight: happy, well-behaved and hard-working. They are well supported by a team of dedicated staff, who work extremely hard to do their best for every child and make their time at Thorns happy and successful. We are a diverse school community and we embrace this; it makes life here more exciting!
Our aim is to provide our pupils with opportunities not only to achieve well academically, but to develop as whole people, ready to move on to the next stage in their school career well-equipped and confident. We provide a rich and varied curriculum, that is planned to meet the learning needs of each child and to provide opportunities for them to discover interests, skills and passions through stimulating and engaging units of work in all subjects.
Our curriculum is underpinned by our curriculum drivers. These are social responsibility, communication, possibilities, diversity and pride, and you can read more about these in our Curriculum section. We chose these because we believe that it is important that our pupils grow into rounded, respectable individuals. Pastoral support is very important to us, and our ethos is a nurturing and caring one. As an inclusive school, we recognise that not all children find school life easy and aim to support them, meeting their needs with sensitivity.
Positive relationships with families are important, and we recognise that children will do best if home and school work in partnership together. We encourage parents and carers to speak to us with any questions or concerns, and will always do our best to listen and respond. We are a community together, and as such, children, staff, families and governors have a role to play. As a small school, there is a lovely 'family' feel, where everyone knows everyone else, staff work together as a team and children are accepting of each others' differences.
We do our best to find ways of involving parents in their children's learning and in school life, and our Parent Carer Association support us in organising events and enrichment activities, including discos, Bonfire Party and seasonal fairs.
We offer a privately run Breakfast Club and after-school care. Please contact the school office if you would like more information.
Of course, I would say our school is great (because it is!), but you are more than welcome to come and see it for yourselves. If you would like to know more about our school, please contact us to arrange a visit and we will happily provide you with a guided tour, where we are sure you will love it - just as we do!
Warmest regards,
Mrs. Rebecca Jordan
